This website is a database of pictures
related with the french army of 1939-1940, and the 1930's, found on the
World Wide Web, or anywhere else.
This dark period of the french History is
unknow. By the french themselves, and the foreign peoples.
A lot of things have been said about this
period. Many of them were not true, and many 'historians' wrote errors,
repeating wrong things or popular beleives.
These men fought bravely when they had
the occasion to do so, and on the paper, the French army of may 1940 was
able to beat the Germans, or at least to stop them.
This website is my little participation
on this huge task, to try to allow the people to have another view of
this period. This website is in memory of the 92 000 Frenchmen and
colonial troops that died in 6 weeks.
Nowadays, that's still difficult to find
pictures of french equipment. In the books, on the Net. This is why this
website is done. You will find here hundreds of
classified pictures: air, infantry, tanks, artillery, navy, etc...
Pictures are uploaded very often, but no
news will be added to tell it. So don't forget to re-visit this website,
you'll find more pictures.
Note something: on this website, you will
find many pictures (that's especially true for the tanks folders) of
burned tanks. There is a reason: 70% of the available pictures of the
may-june battles have been taken by the german PK (Propaganda Kompanies)
were following closely the german troops. They exclusively photographied
french/british losses of course, for propaganda. The french pictures,
taken during the battle, are relatively rare: the french troopers were
not allowed to have cameras, and the ECPA (media bureau of the french
army) stocks of photos are still under exploited. Thousands of pictures
are still sleeping in the archives. Add to this, the fact that they had
few occasions to photography german losses, because most of the time,
they were behind german lines, the French were leading a defensive
combat.
This website is totally free, and the
webmaster don't earn any money. I know that some pictures here could be under
a copyright. I'm really sorry if you are the owner, and if we have
uploaded it,beleiving that it would be free. But I don't have the time to
verify which picture belong to who, and the Net is arena where the laws
are not always respected. If you find a picture here that you own,
please e-mail me, and I'll remove it.
This website is for an educative role.
This not a negationist website: the defeat was here.
